I read with interest the side-by-side op-eds in last Sunday’s Tribune, one entitled, “The problem is Utah’s radical Republicans,” by Paul Mero, and the other entitled, “The problem isn’t Trump, it’s the Democrats,” by Eric Ethington.
These are two very different columnists, so I would not expect to find much in common between them. But I did. Both are making a values argument.
Mero states, “They (Republican extremists) love laws more than people. They worship abstract principles and stomp on the very values that give principle any real meaning.” Ethington states, “The Democratic Party has systematically abandoned its historic representation of the working class in favor of a wholesale embrace of the professional elite and neoliberal principles.”
